Good news is that Trooli now allows customers to use their own routers! The mark of a good ISP!
Of course, using your own router means you are now responsible for any router issues but this is rarely the case these days.
So always keep the supplied Trooli router nearby, so that you can put it back should something require testing in the future on their end.
So how do you use your own router with Trooli?
Step 1: Take a photo of your existing setup and cables for future reference.
Step 2: Call Trooli and request your PPPoE Username and Password.
Step 3: Log into your own custom router and on the WAN/Internet connection page change the connection to PPPoE. Then add the username and password provided. No other special settings are required.
Step 4: Unplug your Trooli router including the cable that goes to the Trooli ONT (fibre) box located on your wall.
[Note: The ONT box is a second box that is unrelated to the Trooli router and provides a conversion from the true fibre cable to a network jack.]
It is usually a white or black box that has four lights on it, a network cable, a fibre cable (usually green ended) and a power lead.
Step 5: Plug your new custom Router’s WAN port into the fibre ONT box RJ45 network jack using a regular CAT5E or CAT6 copper cable (make sure its good quality cable or use the one provided with the Trooli router)
Step 6: Test and check its all working. You can also power cycle the ONT box if you have checked all your other settings and its still not working.
