Solicitors & legal teams

Password decryption
Where a business or legal case is locked out of a computer, PC or Mac, by a boot password (EFI, BIOS or CMOS), or by encrypted files (PDF, Excel, ZIP) or devices (hard drive), we may be able to recover access.
Success rate is about 70%, and a lot depends on the age of the device and the length of code used. Many devices can be unlocked within a few days, but extremely complex codes can take many weeks or months to decrypt. Not all files and devices can be decoded — please enquire for details.
We use a range of techniques: hardware interfacing directly to the microchip, custom electronics designed to break codes, dedicated encryption-breaking systems using parallel computer arrays that decode millions of possibilities per second, and other unique techniques depending on the circumstances.
How a case runs
Authority
We confirm ownership or the legal basis for access — company instruction, force reference, court order or instructing solicitor — before anything is booked in.
Assessment
The device, file type and encryption strength are assessed against current methods, and a realistic timescale and cost are given. If it cannot be decoded, we say so at this stage.
Recovery
Decryption is carried out and access, or the recovered data, is returned to the instructing party.
