How much does it cost for Solar panels?

We only use industry leading solar panels panels that range from 450w to 700w to ensure you get a maximum wattage per square meter. These panels cost between £60 and £150 each. The installation of panels however can be the more expensive part of the setup. This depends on your roof type and location. Prices for installation typically cost from £3000 to £6000.

How long do Solar Batteries run for and what are their capacities?

We supply batteries in 14kw, 28kw, 43kw, 57kw, 72kw packs. These can then be extended into larger capacities of up 448kw but your inverter/s and solar panels will need to support the charging capacity of the battery. If your power consumption is typically 1kw per hour then a 14kw pack should last about 11 to 12 hours. The usable capacity of any LiFePO4 (Lithium Ion Phosphate) is around 80% of stated capacity even if it says it can be used to 95% depth of discharge. All solar storage batteries live longer and support higher loads if they are kept above 17 to 20% charge. A 14kw battery for a home installation costs around £3800

Can you use Batteries only to save on electricity costs and act as a back up?

Yes, in fact you can save around (5x) 70 to 75% of you energy costs by only installing batteries and inverter. You then charge the batteries at night (12:30am to 4:30am) at around 7 to 10 pence per kwh and then use them during the day while drawing no current off the grid. This system can then also act as an UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) to keep you going during power outages.

Sun vs Solar in the UK – does it work all year round?

The further South you are in the UK the better off you are with solar power. In the summer (April to Sept), if you have a good solar installation with batteries – you will be pretty much off-grid for most of the time. Then in October to November you loose about half of the solar but start to rely on a night time grid charge to up at the cheap rate (which is still a 70 to 75% savings). From December to February you will need to completely rely on the night time grid charge but then when March comes around things start to improve again and so it goes. This is why you really need a solar and battery solution to get maximum benifit.
